The Final Cookout

Extinction Rebellion, a climate change organization has been accused of being too white. We need a moonshot idea to bring attention to Black  Gen-Z’ers. It’s understood that the Earth is getting hotter, but many aren’t aware that Black neighborhoods are suffering the most with rising temperatures. This places important elements of Black culture in danger. Let’s turn this tension of rising temperatures and endangered elements of Black culture into a sci-fi film about cookouts in our future, overheated, world.

Extinction Rebellion has delivered their most compelling visual activism yet—a film that seamlessly weaves speculative fiction with environmental justice, grounding climate crisis in Black neighborhoods already experiencing disproportionate heat while celebrating community traditions that persist under duress. The film’s genius lies in transforming climate data into visceral storytelling where families wearing futuristic UV masks at backyard barbecues become both powerful metaphor and authentic portrayal of adaptation as survival.
